We asked for the opposite of a handwriting sample: a page the contributor had already written for themselves, laid flat and photographed from directly above. Printed pages, other people's writing and faint or skewed shots are sent back, and the brief says plainly that messy beats neat. Contributors are worldwide, strongest in Southeast Asia, the United States and Europe, so expect English alongside Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Hindi and French; language is not tagged, and there are no transcriptions. IAM, the corpus most recognizers still rest on, is small, English, careful and non-commercial; this is the hurried, multi-script handwriting it lacks, with a commercial license.
